On Wednesday night, the 8th grade boys basketball team traveled to take on the Hamilton Southeastern Panthers. The Huskies got off to a hot start with 17 points in the first quarter and led 17 - 8. The zone defense played by the Panthers in the second quarter slowed the Husky offense. Fortunately, the Dawgs continued to play good defense and held HSE to only four points in the second quarter. The Huskies held a 23 - 12 lead at halftime. Unfortunately, the zone defense played by the Panthers gave the Dawgs fits in the second half. The Huskies were outscored 14 - 5 in the third period and was holding on to a 2 point lead. The Dawgs made 5 of 6 free throws in the fourth quarter to earn a 39 - 37 victory of the HSE Panthers. The Huskies were led offensively by Drew Champion and Nolan Kakasuleff. In the B game, the Dawgs got off to a hot start & led 11 - 4 after the first period. The team did a good job defensively in the first half holding the Panthers to only 10 points in the first half and led 14 - 10. The Dawgs didn't allow a single point in the third quarter and led 26 - 10. The Huskies made enough shots in the fourth quarter to earn a 33 - 21 victory. The Dawgs were led offensively by Jace Hilton & Royce Bowyer. The 8th grade boys basketball team will be back in action next Wednesday versus the Eastern Comets.
