8th Grade Boys V Westfield

On Wednesday night, the 8th grade boys basketball team hosted the Westfield Shamrocks. The visiting team came out hot and hit five 3 pointers in the first quarter, which put the Huskies in a 15 - 11 deficit after the first quarter. The Dawgs continued to battle in the second quarter to obtain the lead. The Shamrocks hit a late 3 in the first half to take a five point lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Vince Kakasuleff started to heat up and hit two three pointers. The Huskies played the visitors evenly in the period and trailed by 5 to start the last quarter. A couple more three by Vince and a big 3 pointer from Drew Champion brought the Dawgs within striking distance. However, the Shamrocks made several free throws in the fourth quarter to pull away with a nine point win. The final score was Westfield 53 - Hamilton Heights 44. The Huskies were led offensively by Vince Kakasuleff who hit six three pointers. Nolan Kakasuleff played a strong game on both offense and defense. In the B game, the Huskies got off to a good start with some aggressive play from Cooper Hensley, but trailed 13 - 11 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the home team was outscored 12 - 9 and trailed by 5 at halftime. The Dawgs came out of halftime with some aggressive defense and held the Shamrocks to only four points in the third quarter. Going into the last quarter, the Huskies trailed by 3. In the fourth quarter, the Drew Champion made 5 free throws including two with 11 seconds left in the game to tie it up. Unfortunately, the Shamrocks hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to give the Huskies a loss by the final score of 45 - 42. In this game, Jace Hilton and Drew Champion led the Dawgs in scoring and each played extremely well. The 8th grade boys team will be back in action on Thursday night @ Sheridan.
