On Tuesday night, the 8th grade boys basketball team traveled to Carmel Clay. The Huskies got off to a slow start and trailed 16 - 9 after the first quarter. The visiting team continued to get pushed around and outrebounded by a bigger and stronger opponent in the second quarter. The visitors trailed 29 - 17 at halftime. Heights showed a little more fight in the third quarter, but was outscored 9 - 8 in the third period to trail 38 - 25. The last quarter. Carmel Clay pulled away in the last quarter to win by a final score of 52 - 32. Drew Champion was one of the bright spots on the night and led the team offensively. Nice job Drew!! In the B game, the Huskies got off to another slow start and trailed 13 - 7 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the visitors struggled to get defensive stops and trailed 26 - 16 at halftime. During intermission, the team was challenged to play with greater effort and energy. To the credit of the players on the floor, they responded and outscored Carmel Clay 12 - 8 in the period. Down by 6 to start the fourth period, the Huskies came out in a full court press and created multiple turnovers to tie the game at 43 - 43 at the end of regulation. In the overtime period, Cooper Hensley went 4 for 4 from the free throw line to keep the Huskies in it. With 8 seconds left, the Huskies had the ball and on the right wing Cooper Ballenger caught it and didn't hesitate to knock down a huge three point field goal to give the Dawgs a comeback victory. Great shot Coop!! Jace Hilton and Cooper Hensley played well to help the Huskies secure the win. The boys basketball team will be off for the next three weeks over Christmas break and will return in January with a game against Westfield.
