On Thursday night, the 8th grade boys basketball team began their quest for a conference tournament championship. In the first round of the tournament, the Huskies faced off against their rival from Tipton. The home team had some defensive mistakes in the first quarter that allowed the Blue Devils to take a 12 - 11 lead after the first period. The Dawgs turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter. They outscored Tipton 13 - 5 in the second quarter to take a 24 - 17 lead at halftime. The Huskies came out in the third quarter with some aggressive full court defensive pressure that turned the Blue Devils over. The Dawgs went on a 22 - 4 run in the period to put the game out of reach. After three quarters, the Huskies led 46 - 21. In the last period, the Huskies held their rival to only 3 points and finished the second half on a 29 - 7 run. The final score was Huskies 53 - Tipton 24. In the victory, the Dawgs were led offensively by Vince Kakasuleff and Nolan Kakasuleff. Vince hit five three pointers. Jace Hilton came off the bench in the second half with multiple baskets including a big three pointer. Special shout out to Taylor Hartman for his hustle and defensive effort off the bench. Sebastian Pritsch brought a spark off the bench and scored on a layup to give the home crowd something to cheer about. It was a true team effort as 10 players contributed in the scoring column for the Huskies. The Dawgs advanced to the semi-finals of the conference tournament and will face off against the Logansport Berries on Saturday morning @ 9:30.
